VIDEO: When drum stunts go wrong...
our pick of the best on stage screw-ups!
We've just caught wind of a story that Chickenfoot's Chad Smith had yet another brush with danger in London last week after falling dramatically during an attempt to stand on his kit (he later went on to miss Sammy Hagar's head by inches with a flying floor tom). In light of this story (and yesterday's new) we thought we'd post some of our favourite drummer stunts gone wrong.
Were certain there are loads more out there and we want to see them. You can leave a comment below with links to your favourite vids, email your suggestions to rhythmmag@futurenet.co.uk or drop us a line at www.twitter.com/RhythmMagazine.
Rhythm's sister mag Total Guitar has also been trawling the net for their favourite guitarist misdemeanors. You can check out their vids here.
1. Now you see him, now you don't. Chad Smith is a fan of destroying his gear and making sure he's noticed by the crowd. We're not sure he wanted to be seen doing this though...
2. Green Day's Tre Cool makes a dash after the song is finished. That desperate for the bathroom, huh? Best stick to setting your drums on fire, dude...
3. Spinal Tap have gone through their fair share of tubthumpers. Here's why...
4. Slipknot's live show is pretty brutal and naturally injuries are inflicted. Percussionists Shawn and Chris are prone to body abuse, but even Joey Jordison has received the odd knock. Now Joey, those big metal dics are meant for sticks, not your head.
5. A couple of drinks can be a good way to calm pre-gig nerves, but this guy has drunk enough to impair his distance perception. Best go have a lie down.
6. We all break sticks and get the odd smack on the hand during a lapse of concentration, but Bare Naked Ladies drummer Tyler Stewart had the bad luck to to take a shard of broken stick to the eye. Cue an awkward few minutes of Canadian stand-up...
7. We're certain this clip was supposed to be a showcase of the angelic singer, but we couldn't take our eyes off the animated drummer... for all the wrong reasons.

8. We love a bit of heavy metal, but not when it's flying towards our face.
9. First question: Why are these guys playing in the woods? Second question: Where did he get that park bench from?
10. Proof that timpani are the most rock'n'roll instrument on the planet. If you're squeamish, look away now...
I'm MusicRadar's eCommerce Editor. In addition to testing the latest music gear, with a particular focus on electronic drums, it's my job to manage the 300+ buyer's guides on MusicRadar and help musicians find the right gear for them at the best prices. I dabble with guitar, but my main instrument is the drums, which I have been playing for 24 years. I've been a part of the music gear industry for 20 years, including 7 years as Editor of the UK's best-selling drum magazine Rhythm, and 5 years as a freelance music writer, during which time I worked with the world's biggest instrument brands including Roland, Boss, Laney and Natal.
