About u-he
RECORDING WEEK 2022: Founded in 2001 by industrial designer/synthesizer aficionado Urs Heckmann as a one-man show, the Berlin-based audio software company u-he has since evolved into a tightly knit team of employees, active associates and 3rd-party contractors – with ambitious plans.
Known initially for Zebra2 and Diva synthesizers, u-he has released several other highly acclaimed products over the years, and regularly contributed freeware plug-ins to popular music technology magazines. Despite their underlying complexity, u-he synths and effects are often praised for their ease of use.
More recently, the u-he team has been exploring new technologies for vastly improved analogue synthesis and delay emulation (Repro / Colour Copy), for smoothest possible wavetable interpolation (Hive 2), for new physical modelling approaches to effect design (Twangström), as well as for Eurorack hardware (CVilization):
All valuable groundwork and inspiration for exciting future products!
MFM2: More Feedback Machine
RECORDING WEEK 2022: MFM2 is our over-the-top digital delay plug-in. You can create anything from subtle textured echos to huge spacey reverbs, from wild tonal steps on a pad to rhythmic deconstruction of a drum track.
As a regular delay MFM2 already offers as much control and inspiration as possible, while the advanced features in version 2.5 open up wider horizons. More feedback, more control, more inspiration!
u-he Kinesis Hive 2 Soundset - Preset Walkthrough
Bryan Lake aka Sound Author presents a 128-patch set for Hive 2, focussed on timbral movement.
Kinesis comprises an arsenal of organic grooves, snappy generative arpeggios, evolving sequences and lush ambient pads, several of which employ Hive’s special filter modes.
Most of the presets react to MIDI velocity, modulation wheel and pitch bend. All presets include XY pad control, which not only appears in Hive’s XY panel, but also in Hive’s preset browser (as a row of 8 knobs) as well as on NKS hardware.
