Ashun Sound Machines quickly became a household name in the world of synths with the release of the Hydrasynths and in a few short years, the Chinese firm has dropped three more iterations of its wave morphing synthesizer.

As soon as it was launched it was love at first patch, but I must admit to never being able to own one, until the release of the more affordable Explorer that is. Now more than ever, the temptation is too strong to bear with these deals at Sweetwater this Cyber Monday. Explorer is down to just $499, while the desktop version has dropped $150. The original Hydrasynth gets a cut of $200 down to $1,099 and the big one, the Deluxe model has the biggest discount of $300 down to just $1,499.

These deals are not going to last forever as the prices will rise back up after December 8th, so you've still got a few days to make room in your home studio for one.

ASM Hydrasynth Explorer: Was $599, now $499
One of my favourite synth releases in recent years is the Hydrasynth from Ashun Sound Machines. The fact that ASM managed to squeeze everything into a portable format, especially polyphonic aftertouch in a mid-size keybed is ideal for me as I have little to no room in my home studio. The only downside is fewer controls on the interface, but if you can bear to ditch the keyboard for the module version, or have deep enough pockets for the larger models, then you're in luck as Sweetwater has deals on all Hydrasynth models. If conventional keys just aren't your thing then the Desktop edition of Hydraysnth is for you. The good folks at ASM even saw fit to add 24 expressive pads with poly aftertouch. What you lose in keys is made up with hands-on control, as the desktop version features the same amount of controls as the original keyboard edition. Wave Morphing Synthesizer Module, with 8-voice Polyphony, 24 Performance Pads with Polyphonic Aftertouch, WaveScan Oscillators, Waveshaping, Dual Filters, Arpeggiator, and CV/Gate

I take care of the reviews on MusicRadar and Future Music magazine, though can sometimes be spotted in front of a camera talking little sense in the presence of real musicians. For the past 30 years, I have been unable to decide on which instrument to master, so haven't bothered. Currently, a lover of all things high-gain in the guitar stakes and never one to resist churning out sub-standard funky breaks, the likes of which you'll never hear.
