Remix Mariah Carey, win $5,000
I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time audio can be downloaded for free
Mariah Carey is following in the footsteps of Radiohead by allowing fans (and anyone else for that matter) to remix her new single I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time. The creator of the best remix will win $5,000 and the opportunity to have their track heard by the wider world.
The contest is being run by Indaba Music - once you've entered, you can download the separate audio files in the track from its website. You can use as little or as much of this material as you like, though any other parts you add will have to be copyright-free.
Once you've finished it, you can upload your remix to the contest website and download a widget so that it can be linked to on social networking sites. Entries will be judged on creativity, marketability and originality.
As well as the cash, the winner of the contest will have his or her track posted on MariahCarey.com, IslandRecords.com and Mariah's MySpace page, where they'll also be the singer's Top Friend for a month. Second prize is a Digidesign Mbox2, while all of the top 10 remixers will receive a copy of E=MC2, Carey's latest album.
So, get to work - and feel free to remove as many of Mariah's histrionic vocal moments as you like.
