Chicago-raised Shawn James has made a name for himself as a raw, unbridled talent, forging blues and folk with a rock sensibility, as demonstrated in this fiery rendition of Orpheus, taken from new album The Dark And The Light.
As part of the performance, shot in Nashville, Tennessee, James takes the opportunity to detail his gospel and blues influences, and how buying his first guitar made him start writing songs immediately.
He also reveals that switching to Elixir Strings made his touring life easier, reducing string changes and allowing him to play with more confidence.
“I tour about 150-200 days a year, and before, every week I’d have to change a string just for fear of breaking ’em.”
“Elixir Strings are the only brand to fully coat the entire string, which means that you don’t have to change them as much, and the tone lasts longer. I tried ’em out, and I haven’t turned back since.”
James and his band play Optiweb Coated Electric Guitar Strings and Nanoweb Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings.

Shawn James tours the UK throughout March.
