Learn a percussive guitar riff in this lesson from Elixir® Strings artist and Andertons star John Connearn

John Connearn is now known as 'Digital John' to thousands of fellow guitarists thanks to his video work with Andertons, but aside from his great online gear demos, the Elixir® Strings player is a talented songwriter in his own right – as this lesson proves.

John's fingerstyle playing is showcased with a tutorial above for his song Quite Far Enough. The original electric guitar recording of the track features on his 2021 album Is This Thing On?, but John plays it unplugged here, proving it's great for electric and acoustic players.

It's an impressive example of a melodic riff, created with a percussive backbeat acting as a snare, with hammer-ons and pull-offs, plus some tasty chord work. Helpfully, the tabs for everything John plays are included for you to follow as you go along.

John Connearn uses Elixir® Strings for both his acoustic and electric guitars; choosing Elixir® Acoustic 80/20 Bronze strings with NANOWEB® Coating in Custom Light Gauge (11-52) on his acoustic guitars. For electric he uses both Elixir® Electric Nickel Plated Steel Strings with NANOWEB® Coating in Super Light Gauge (9-42) and the NANOWEB® Baritone Gauge (12-68).

"I play Elixir Strings because I know that every time I pick up a guitar, it will feel, sound and respond the way I believe a guitar should," says John. "I'll also feel confident in this whether the strings have been played for months or if they are fresh out of the pack."
