PRS Guitars reveals 'Paul's 28'
PRS Guitars has recently unveiled a run of 28 instruments set to be amongst the most collectible the brand has ever released - with just a single example destined for the UK market.
'Paul's 28' is the name given to the guitar series which Paul Reed Smith himself has worked on throughout the building process, and which features the ultimate in both tonewoods and hardware appointments.
The series is the first for many years to involve Smith 'hands-on' in terms of neck and body carving, staining, sanding, finishing and setting up.
Paul Reed Smith describes the Paul's 28 guitars as being "…the first run of guitars made utilising all of the parts, processes, and workmanship I have spent my career seeking, testing, and refining."
Certainly no expense has been spared in specifying the materials and processes employed in their creation. A stunningly curly maple top, ribbon-striped mahogany back, unique Pernumbuca neck, black rosewood fretboard, Mexican rosewood headstock veneer and solid shell abalone/paua/ivory Celtic Cross inlays all play a part in the 28's unique aesthetic appeal.
In line with other recent high-end offerings from PRS, the new series is fitted with PRS' proprietary 1957/2008 humbuckers.
UK PRS distributor Headline Music Ltd was the first customer to commit to purchase a Paul's 28 guitar. Drawn at random, Number Four of the 28 is to arrive in the UK in due course, having been secured from Headline Music by retailer Digital Village.
