In a first-ever discount in the Cyber Monday music deals, you can bag yourself a cheeky $20 off the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen over at Guitar Center. Okay so it’s not the biggest monetary amount, but it is a relatively new product and more importantly, it’s the top-rated product in our best audio interfaces guide.

Over the past year, I’ve reviewed over 15 interfaces, so it’s fair to say I’ve got a pretty good handle on what’s good and what isn’t. In my experience with modern interfaces at the consumer level there’s also not all that much difference in the quality, rather it’s the features that make things truly stand out. That’s why I put the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen at the top of the pile because it crams in more features than you’ll know what to do with.

With a plethora of functionality, top-quality preamps, and sturdy build quality the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen is a brilliant bit of kit that will suit the beginner mixer and producer just as much as it does those with years of experience under their belt. It covers all the bases you’ll need for making music at home, and that’s why it’s our favorite audio interface right now.

The amount of features packed into the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen is second to none for an interface at this price point. I particularly like the auto-gain function which detects the level of your input signal and adjusts the gain automatically. It’s great for swapping between guitars with different pickup types and something you’ll actually find this the far more expensive Universal Audio Apollo Twin Gen 2.

The clip-safe mode is a little less helpful for experienced engineers, but if you’re new to the recording game it could quite literally save your mix, so it’s well worth engaging. Pushing this button makes sure that automatically turns down the gain if it detects a signal that’s going to clip the input. If you’re recording loud, dynamic sources like drums then it’ll end up being really useful.

The Focusrite Scarlett 4th Gen series also comes with a really useful software companion app that makes it a lot easier to manage your interface when you have a permanent setup. No longer do you have to constantly reach for the physical controls of the interface, just control everything from the comfort of your mouse and keyboard whether it’s your input levels, loopback channels, or you can even use your phone to remotely control the interface from anywhere in your home studio.
