We Welcome John Jorgenson

Coming to an issue of Guitarist near you soon (the next issue if we play our cards right) will be the first of a series of video column featuring the one and only John Jorgenson. The former Hellecaster and Elton John sidekick appeared on our CD many years ago, during which time he put us to shame with some amazing Django-flavoured acoustic playing during a sesh filmed at the ACM in Guildford.

This time around he´s coming to us (what a guy!), and we´ve extended him the well-deserved courtesy of a gear rider: this means that, basically, he tells us what gear he´d like for what we´ll be asking him to do and we source it to save him dragging tons of stuff up the M4.

Here are a few shots of what we´ve got for him: it´s more than he asked for, actually, but we want him to be as comfortable as possible when he sits down, ready to play. A brace of Vox amps, plus a Matchless Lightning, were top of the amp list, while we asked for - and were sent - a relic´d Fender ´52 Telecaster, plus two G&Ls, and a Fender Road Worn Tele and 50´s Strat.

We´ve also grabbed him an old Ibanez TS-9, plus a T-Rex Replica delay, just to be on the safe side.

Fingers crossed, but this is gonna be great...

Simon Bradley is a guitar and especially rock guitar expert who worked for Guitarist magazine and has in the past contributed to world-leading music and guitar titles like MusicRadar (obviously), Guitarist, Guitar World and Louder. What he doesn't know about Brian May's playing and, especially, the Red Special, isn't worth knowing.
