Download has some serious competition this year with Sonisphere, a new two-day festival at Knebworth house on 1 and 2 August.
Joining the two previously announced headliners Metallica and Linkin Park, as well as Lamb Of God and Mastodon are the following bands:

Avenged Sevenfold
Machine Head
The Sword
Thin Lizzy
The organisers promise even bigger announcements to come but the fact this will be the only UK festival appearance in 2009 for Machine Head, as well as the only 2009 UK appearance for Alice In Chains and Avenged Sevenfold makes it a pretty tempting proposition even at this early stage.
