Gilmour set to release Barrett tribute and DVD tracks
has announced the release of a new single dedicated to his late friend and former Pink Floyd bandmate, Syd Barrett.
The single will consist of three live songs - an acoustic cover of Dark Globe, from Barrett solo album The Madcap Laughs, and two new live versions of Floyd´s debut single, Arnold Layne, both recorded at the Royal Albert Hall.
One version features a vocal from Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright; the other witnesses a guest performance by David Bowie. The tracks will be available to download on Christmas Day, with a limited run of vinyl singles available from Boxing Day.
And on 27 November, Gilmour will also release an expanded edition of his number one album On An Island, featuring an eight-track DVD of live performances from 2006 and including a new take on Syd Barrett´s Astronomy Domine from The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. The version was recorded for Channel 4´s Live From Abbey Road earlier in the year.
