Processor manufacturer and Intel nemesis AMD has announced that it´s going split into two companies. The schizophrenic statement means that part of the company will continue to be known as AMD and will carry on with design work, while the actual manufacturing will be handled by the split-off company, which has been temporarily named the Foundry Company.
AMD will have a 44.4% stake in this new company, the rest of which will be owned by Advanced Technology, a company set up by the government of Abu Dhabi. The deal means billions of investment dollars for the company once known as AMD, which the company hopes will put it in a stronger position to challenge its eternal rival Intel.
